Default Denali AWD lower ball joint replacement? how the heck...?

okay, done plenty of ball joints, never seen one like this. 2004 Denali AWD. we are trying to replace the ball joints. the lowers are tricky, they have the big fat lip on the bottom, which means they are to be pressed downward through the lower a-arm and out the bottom. problem is, they also have a lip on top that hangs over the hole with 4 flat spots where a machine spread them out. are we supposed to cut the whole dang top of the ball joint off to be able to press it out? theres no way it will press out with the way it is... tried doing a google search and a search on here and didnt find much help. anybody have any tips?

Use a sharp chisel and knock off the "ears" as close as you can and it should press through. This is what worked for me when I did my Tahoe's lower ball joints.

yeah we tried that on the passenger size, even used and impact on the ball joint press tool and it would not budge. i guess we'll try harder tomarrow!
