I was hoping you'd dig deeper and find a solution. I have tuned a few 60e's that do this, even built transmissions, and they still have that 1>2 shift delay.

Did you modify the shift time table? I know it can be reduced but can't recall the recommended minimum value right off.
The shift delay I have is related to wear I believe. As the miles pile up the 1-2 shift quality has deteriorated.

I went by my tuners shop yesterday but he wasn't available. I will try again today on the way home from work. I'll see if he can fix it or make it better with tuning.

I reduce shift time on all transmission that I tune. Longer shift duration makes for a smooth ride, but its unnecessary wear. Interested to hear what you find out.

What's the best route to go as far as rebuilding a 4l60e, replacing it All together or drop in a 4l80e? Best option money wise?

Best option money-wise is likely to buy a used one and swap it in. Next best option is to have yours rebuilt then the option of buying a complete replacement. Unless you can find a deal somewhere.

My buddy just picked up a 4l80 for 350 bucks, you'll just have to shorten the driveshaft by a bit, modifiy the corssmember, and get a different (or modifiy your current) pigtail. Shouldn't break another tranny after that

This is what I did when I bought the truck with 60,000 miles on it, and probably the reason my 1-2 is still functioning as good as it is.

General rule of thumb: If the truck is harshly banging into gear, then it's probably too fast of a shift. On mine, 2-3 was a bitch to get exactly right.

A 4L80 for $350 is like stealing
I've never, nor have I ever heard of personally, a 4L80 "breaking" other than being overheated. They're pretty tough.
