Default CV ?'s

My front end on my 99 Silverado z71 stared making some poping, clanking sounds a few days ago. The sounds seem to be when I first get in it and at my first couple of stops. After that it seems to go away, IT DOES NOT MAKE POPING SOUNDS WHEN I TURN right now my thought is CV's but the turning thing is throwing me off anybody have any other ideas?

Are you noticing the noise when it shifts? Mine clangs quite a bit during the shifts, and when shifting from drive to reverse, etc. (it's been that way since day 1) Could be some slop in the driveline and or transfer case...and it may go away as the trans and diff fluid heats up and thins out (and shifts/downshifts aren't as harsh)
