Default Couple of quick questions...

Hey guys, I am looking at getting a 97 gmc sierra 2wd for a project truck. I just have a couple of questions about the engine and transmission. I know the trans is shot and the engine needs work but I am planning on getting both rebuilt. I was wondering if a turbo 350 or 400 will bolt up to the 5.7 L in place of the stock trans right now. I am also wondering if an older 350 (from the 80's half tons) will bolt into the 97. My issue is I don't know if I want to rebuild the 5.7/stock trans or just ditch it and build a complete drivetrain. Is it worth swapping out the stock stuff for an 86 350 with turbo 350 or sticking with the stock eng/trans and just rebuild? Also, If I do decide to keep the stock 5.7 and rebuild the stock trans, is it worth it to switch it over to a carb rather than deal with all that EFI crap? Thanks in advance for all your input!

All I can say is I have a Turbo 400 in my 99 and I HATE IT! You definately want to have overdrive..... IMO.
