a built tranny makes all the difference in the confidence you have to flog on your truck without the fear of breaking something. I smoked 2nd gear in my 60e and went to a 65e that was completely built by a guy locally whos been doing it for years so I have plenty of confidence in his work. the trans manufacturers are just as good, if not better since you have all the tech help, costomer service, and warranty options. FLT is the only way I would go if buying one from a large company simply because of thier reputation with people making BIG power IMO.
if you are talking about doing anything with a power adder in your truck. a built tranny will be your only option since the weight of these trucks is what kills them. a 4l60e can live a lot longer in a 500hp f-body than it will in a 500hp 5000# plus truck turning generally much bigger tires etc etc... weigh your options and search and ask.... you'll find the one thats right for your application. hope this helps.
