Default Building the tranny first

Hi everyone, I'm new to the website so be easy on me. I have a 2006 Chevy 2500HD 6.0, right now I've got a cam and tune by within the next year I'm going to put together a turbo setup but first I want to put a higher speed torque converter in my truck. I drive my truck daily and it's also my hunting, up in the mountains rig. If I could get any help on what the stock stall is and what would be an ideal speed to go up to would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I can get mine to stall up to 2500 rpm if I push it hard, but thats with a turbo helping... I've thought about getting a stall so it launches off the line harder and I was only gonna get a 2800-3000 since like you I daily my truck and use it to plow and tow occasionally

Depending on your goals you might not need a built tranny. All mine has is a transgo hd2 shift kit and it holds fine, well with the power I have right now anyways

Well you can power brake it and see what it stalls at. Iirc mine was about 2100 or so. I don't care for more than 2500 or so on a true DD. A loose converter is such a pain Imo unless you just want to race everything and often. But to get the most out of the cam ideally it should be matched.

Yes it stops at 2100, the main reason I'm looking into a different TC is for launching off the line. I'm sure s you know that until those LQ4s get up in the rpms they're not much for off the line NA. I know the 4l80e are stout trannys so I'm not worried about building, just changing up the stall for better launches, especially with the soon to follow turbo kit. And a quick question, is the TC 12" or 13"? I've found some 13s by unthought stock was 12"
