Default Broken C notch and cracked frame. Advice needed!

Hey everyone I'm looking for some advice, i drive a 06 silverado crew cab that is lowered and had a c notch installed. i recently saw my truck sagging between the bed and cab so i knew something was up. when i crawled up under my truck i found this broken c notch that has resulted in the frame tearing in that section.

I took my truck to a shop and they quoted me $3,000 to have the frame cut at the cab, and replaced with a new rear frame section.

My question is why can't i just cut the section of the frame with the crack, and weld a new section in?

Any advice, input or ideas would be much appreciated..

Thanks

I believe the frame is hydroformed/ not supposed to be welded.

Take it to a shop that bags/modifys trucks. Any regular repair shop wont touch a frame due to liability. Any good shop should be able to either cut out the damaged section and put in a step notch or just fab up a piece and repair the damaged section. AVS makes an under bed notch that adds a piece of box tubing above the frame and inserts into the notch to strengthen it.

Hydroformed frames get cut/welded all the time, but obviously the factory warranty wont cover anything at that point so its a moot point.

Do you have any pictures of the damage? Might be able to at least see what the easier fix may be. Also, was it a bolt in notch?

People cut and weld on frames every day without issues. It just sounds like the people who did yours were hacks.

In short, yes, you can do it yourself.

Do you have any pictures of said crack? Both sides if you can.
How bad is the sag?

Did you have another thread here or on another forum? This sounds familiar.
