Hey birch I got a stock 60e that came out of my 2005 2wd with 30,000. It does not have the bell housing or tailshaft housing because I used it for my performabuilt unit but you can swap yours over. how does $250 sound??

If you broke that piston, then the band probably isn't in good shape. Its good that you pulled it out. If you would of just put a piston in it, it wouldn't be long till it is slipping in 2-4 gears.

Piston is plastic.

Yeah, already had a master rebuild kit coming. So was planing on doin a rebuild any ways. Just aggravating that it was a cheap plastic piece. So went ahead and order another TransGo kit to replace the steel check *****, separator plate, and accumulator pistons with aluminum ones.

Mine just doesnt want to shift out of first til about 5k, unless I let off, and ease the throttle back in at low rpms when I want it to shift.
If I try to get on it after the 1st shift, no matter what speed, it just throws it to 6k+ and wont grab.

any diagnosis?
Im trying to buy a trans so I dont have to have downtime when my truck is in the shop.

You can drop the valve body and see if it may be one of the accumulator pistons or see if your band is slipping( servo not applying right). I hate these trans. That is wht I am going to the 6 speed with my 6.0 swap.

you might of broke the forward sprag. i busted mine into peices and it still drove forward but anything past 1/4 throttle it would just rev and grind. ive broke every peice inside the 4L60 trans at one time or another. broke the band, burnt clutches, shattered planets, broke the ring off the sun shell, broke an output shaft, welded some clutch packs together, etc.

in the newer trans the pistons are plastic, we try to replace them with the older aluminum ones but the hole in the middle is different on some of them. just like in the newer ford trans the aluminum planets are bad about going out so we put in the older steel parts.

more than likely you broke one of the sprags. either way your gonna have to get a rebuild. the sprags and sunshell seem to be the weakest points in these trans.

Well got my trans back together and in the truck. If anyone reads this DON'T use the superior servo. I think that is what sent my trans over the edge. After rebuild put it back in and guess what no 2nd or 4th. Put it back on jack stands put stock servo back in and poof I now have 2nd and 4th. So now my truck is back on the road and I am happy.
