Default Axle/Brake swap questions

Do drum brakes and disc brakes mount the same to the axle?

Buddy has a 99 and 06 silverado, wants to swap the axles out since the 99 has a built rear but wants to keep the brakes on the truck as they are. So question is, can we take the brakes off of each axle and mount them to the other, or do they mount up differently?

Axle flanges are the same.

They mount up the same but the flanges are clocked differently. It shouldn't affect braking. Just make sure you bleed them good.

I know this is noob question but what about just swapping entire rears ends? Would braking performance suffer on either truck due to the disk/drum difference?

In that thread going from disk to drum wasnt a problem but not sure about drum to disk, I thought I had read something about the valving being different/wrong but I'm not really sure, someone else will chime in I'm sure

That's what I was thinking. If it doesn't hurt performance it would be a lot less work to just swap the entire thing.

Your 06s Drums will stop better than the 99s discs

Not sure how much though. May not be too noticeable, especially since all you haul around is two purple car seats

Actually if you want to get technical one is purple because it has an LSU cover on it, the other has yellow and tan flowers.

What I'm more concerned about is the disk setup on the rear of the 06 and the truck still stopping in acceptable distance.
