On my way to work yesterday morning, up the sunshine skyway bridge, 70mph with the cruise on, truck suddenly acted like it was in neutral. 3rd and 4th let go. 45mph all the way home with people flying by at 80 sucked, lol. Luckily I had the tuning gear with me and was able to lock the converter in 2nd and prevent it from shifting into 3 or 4.
Anyhow, need some opinions on what to do here. I'd like to stick with a 60 based trans because I doubt I'm ever going to go wild with the power in this thing. Would I be better off just buying a 65E from GM or having this one rebuilt? Trans still shifts nicely from 1-2, but thats about it, lol. Who are the preferred vendors for transmissions here? Thanks guys.

You could certainly get a 65E through GM depending on your time frame and overall goals.
I would recommend you do some research first. Not just on shops, but on the these transmissions in general. That way you will have a better Idea of what you will need and what your getting.
Local Is usually better if a problem should arise. When you deal with mail order transmissions you usually have to pay shipping both ways even under warranty. It may seem cheap at first but should you have an issue it could get real expensive.
If you buy from a GM dealer the warranty through Gm can get sticky if they did not do the work.

Update: I had a 99 4L60E that had been sitting around for quite sometime. I was selling it as a core only transmission (It was in running condition but had been sitting, so I wasn't sure of it) but because of shipping costs it never sold. Good thing, because it is currently strapped to a pallet and on it's way to Gilbert @ Ace Racing. Interesting thing is there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, I most likely could have swapped it out and been good to go but I wasn't sure about the pump, and don't want to go through this in another 20k miles... I'm going with a stock-ish CircleD converter, just not quite sure which one.

So I have heard! It's been a long time since I've had anything but a stock GM 4L in a vehicle. Looking forward to getting something in there that's not a slushbox.
BTW- also have the truecool 40k ready to go in, seems like it's the thing to have.
