Wouldn't you end up with a tighter clearance? Is that considered the preferred method amongst trans builders? I was told to soak before, and you'll see closer to your actual "recommended" clearance level in normal operation. Maybe that's incorrect.

yes . . . that was idea behind it. It was another thread just like yours. It was another 4L60e rebuild (basement rebuild was the title). There were a couple of builders that chimed in about it.

here's the thread that I was talking about

I just noticed how his case is cracked at the bell, to the right of where his ratchet strap is at.

Cracked? That's straight up broken. Won't be following that. I'd prefer to follow to recommended specs having clearances set to accommodate normal operation with components engulfed in fluid. OEM specs call for .060" - .085" of clearance. Performance parts manufacturers call for slightly tighter clearance after soaking the clutches for at least 20 - 30 minutes. We know what too much clearance leaves room for. But, I don't wish to know what "no" clearance results to. That's the general consensus from a few builders I know (of which post on this forum). Thanks for posting the link to that thread. I remember reading it before. I'll go through it again tonight to see what I should "not" do this time around.

The gentleman in the picture coded that picture "daretorebuild". Left click on it in his thread and try to save it in your computer. That is what the picture name comes up as. Thought it was pretty funny! I guess I have a sick sense of humor. I have talked to him a couple of times through his build and seems like a good guy. He really did put a lot of work into the thread. But this just shows that this **** is not as easy as it looks. I personally would build, document, install, drive for more than once around the block, and then start working on the thread, so not to look like an idiot. There were quite a few members that blasted this poor guy during the thread. I give him credit for trying.
