There's a bolt right in the middle of the steering shaft under the hood, it's underneath the brake booster and hard to miss. Unbolt it, and pump the shaft in and out 10-15 times.

I've done this twice in the last 1.5 years when the clank comes back, it's saved me from having to buy the redesigned one so far...

The bottom but only because it's easier to get to. If it doesn't work i've used the grease kits before. I'm sure you can use bearing grease and just work it in there. Maybe you can find something to make a plug to help get the grease in better.

Here is a link to a write up on how I do it with Photos and what you need to buy to grease the shaft. With P/N. I also use wheel bearing grease. I find it lasts 8-12 months depending on how much you drive. Everyone who I have done this for has been happy with the results.

We lube the intermediate shaft, but use marine-tec grease. Zero comebacks in 3 years.

So where do you actually stick the needle?

In the photo there is an arrow pointing to the seal. After you push the shaft in so the step on the shaft (step is circled in the photo) goes into the seal you can easily insert the needle between the seal and the shaft.

Thanks guys. Greased it up today. Filled the shaft up and greased around the dust cover. Seems to be better. Looks like it would work better if one end was sealed up and it had a grease fitting. Might try that next time.
