Does anyone know what bearings to use?

The G80 I had, had the thrust block taken out and I couldnt get it back in.

Ended up welding the open diff, and while I think its fun, after breaking my boat, I realized that when the welded diff breaks its gonna be bad.

Took a new job, and a resulting pay cut, so for right now, a Tru track is out of the question.

A buddy gave me his G80 from his impalla which is built like an EATON, and has the clutches in it, but the bearings are different than the ones in the truck.

Ive heard its been done before, but cant find any info on it.

Does anyone recall the bearings that need to be used? Or lead me in the direction to find out?

 

Hmm. Well this might be bad news for you depending. If you have an original Auburn LSD out of a Caprice or Impala it's not going to work in your truck. The Auburn has spring loaded conical side gears and no clutches in it. They make carrier bearings to put the 8.625" carrier in the 8.5" housing but not the other way around.

I you truly have a clutch pack LSD though that is not original to any 1995 GM B body car so being it was overhauled it might be an 8.6" carrier anyhow. Measure and see. That or call a driveline shop and see if they can make something work for you. Last time I checked it was nada unfortunately.

Im 99% sure its a factory unit. So it may suck for me.

 

If you just need to get it back together, EvilGMC has an open peg leg carrier for sale in the classified section. Sucks but at least you will be back on the road and you can sale the other one and save for a better unit in the mean time.
