Yep, the smallest diameter is where the c clip holds them in, and even that is about .8" I think.

And that takes no real twist just maybe side pulling load under extreme cornering

Welll I think unless I go 8 lug. It's my only good choice. I may build it a bit though. With axles, trutrac and a girdle.

I guess ill be one of the guys to really push it. 800hp, 35" tires, 6400lbs, eaton lsd, huge thick cover, 4.56 gears...

Is it DrX or supersub that also has a lot of power through one of these?

i think the problem is that with a diesel that make 600hp is that it will make 1200lbft of torque by 1600rpm. so that's my fear, being that i broke the 8.5 so many times i don't wanna spend $1200 on an axle for it to not hold the power and rip the axles in half. lol. i think the advantage of a FF is that the axle its self doesn't "see" the weight of the truck and the torque of the motor. where as a SF see's both so if the weight load is enough to combined with the twist it can put it in a bad spot and cause breakage. i think that's what happen to the 8.5. my tahoe transfers weight like crazy and it twist to the left, which is the axle that always broke. i think it put it in a bend bind as well as a twist and it didn't like it.

if i knew for a fact the 9.5 would hold i'd be all over it for sure.

So far, so good with mine, but I have only been using it to spin the tires. We'll see how it holds up when I put the slicks on it.

What are the rules re these c-clip axles at the track?

there only good for so fast then you have to go ff, 9" style outers or c-clip eliminators. and every body says stay away from eliminators for street use.

I can’t speak as to the current rules, but as of 2009 any vehicle that ran 10.99 or quicker had to have c-clip eliminators if the rear end was a salisbury type that originally used c-clips.
