Default 9.5" 14bolt limits? Discuss

How much can a 9.5" 14 bolt take before she goes? I'm talking the caddy suv version spacifically. Can it hold 1000-1200lbft of torque? With over 6000lb weight and 35-37" tires? Now the Gears won't be crazy. Talking 4.10's. Will It be the axles or the ring gear that gives first?

Interesting, I'm not sure as I haven't seen many first hand with that much power to them, let alone heard of them taking a dump in a Performance Truck application. Are we talking Off-Road here or On-Road?

It seems to be a pretty stout axle to throw a bit of power at. At the least you could install a T/A performance cover on it, get a set of billet shafts made, install a main cap stud kit, and throw an Eaton LSD in there with the proper gear contact and back lash. Have at it and see where it takes you. That torque figure you posted is nice 'n high, but as long as it's not a sudden hit, that axle built up would probably take it.

Weight of the vehicle will have a lot to do with this as well... Anything that a D-max comes in has pretty stout running gear... So I'm guessing you're considering a swap??

Dmax has 11.5. Gas hd's have 10.5. The 10.5 is has stronger pinion mount setup. But it's axle diameter is the same from 10.5-11.5. 1.5" 30 spline. But I don't know where that's measured and how it compares to the 9.5" in the same spots

Anything with an Allison got the 11.5, so Duramax/Allison and 8.1/Allison trucks.

The shafts are about the size of baseball bats, so I imagine those will be fine. I havent heard of any of them breaking, actually...

You talkng about the 9.5? Yeah it seems the spline is as big as the big side of a 8.5 and it just grows from there. Not to mention, the only one in 6 lug style
