Default 9.25" front diff in half ton

I have seen it mentioned on here before but never seen it done.

I know anything is possible with the right money behind it... but I would like some help thinking through this. How much of a project are we talking about here?

Thinking out loud. I'm not sure I would ever need it, but its got my attention.

I believe the frame mounting is different and the biggest hurdle, so you would have some decent fab work just in that.

You need to check with Duntov1967, he's the only guy I've seen seriously persue this mod. He had a thread at one time if I'm not mistaken.

There were some guys back on GMfullsize.com that did the swap and from what I had read, it was just as easy to do a SAS swap as it was to swap in the 9.25 diff

Not surprised to hear that... I won't be doing a SAS though.

Looks fairly easy on a GMT900 truck being they 8.25 and 9.25 have the same mounting points but on the older trucks, seen it attempted several times but none successful.

Is the 8.25 in the 900 that much different than the 8.25 in the 800?

Externally the cases and mounting points are different. In the GMT900s the 1500s and 2011+ new frame 2500s are very similar... also being how they mount it looks like the swap is very do able. I'll have to get under my 2015 HD and measure the front diff. Thinking some new mounts and new front shafts and it's a go. Been thinking of this swap for a good while now and to be able to put in a tru-trac and have a limited slip in the front so there is no more 3 wheel burnouts would be great. The 2011+ 2500hd front diffs are the ones you want to do this conversion.

Is the case still aluminum? Don't know how I feel about a positive traction aid in an aluminum case...
