it would be sweet if it came with a posi. i would just try it or try it with a rebuild. might be a real cheap set up.

I don’t know if this helps but I put a 14 bolt in my 94 w/ aluminum drive shaft and old 10 bolt and I had to get u- joint part# 2-3050. I got mine from advance auto parts.

If I read correctly these brackets would allow you to run some discs on the early model 14bolts.

check www.car-parts.com. That will help you find a rearend cheap. I will ask about the yoke and get back with you tomorrow. I have an eaton in my 1991 and its ok for your truck I might go with a spool or the tru track. If you need any measurements I will be happy to climb under and put a tape on it.

Not sure why you're calling it a 12-bolt with a 14-bolt cover. On the phone with these people call it a "9.5 14-bolt" to avoid confusion. The 9.5" has 14 cover bolts and is semi-floating, came either open or with a G80, 5-lug, 6-lug, and 8.

BTW Dave, 8-speeds has been done before

Hell you're in Nebraska what about a 2 speed rearend out of a grain truck? With everyone wanting 6L80's you'd be the first with a 8 speed setup.

buddy has a older 454ss and his is a 14bolt

i thought the "12bolt" or "14bolt" was the number of bolts in the ring, not true?

Couple of things that may help--

* TA makes a girdle cover for the 14 bolt housings -- cheap and fast delivery from them direct
* The axles that are available (at least for the housing I used) were "stock replacement" customs -- 33 spline, hard alloy, whatever lug pattern you want
* Get one with brakes if you can, then at least you know there are brakes made that fit your setup, even if they are stockers. Otherwise, contact me for a race shop that will custom fab rotors for you
* To make it easy on yourself, see if you can find a modern 14 bolt 9.5" s.f. (they came in a lot of things, including the 1500 crew cab, all the HDs, etc.) -- but I couldn't find one locally and just got the run around from the custom search site. I ended up buying an empty housing from GM for $900 and adding the detroit locker, axles, r&p from aftermarket (see the above about brakes lol)
* Give Joe Vinci a call about mycroniting the R&P
* Don't listen to anyone who says "oh yeah that will bolt right up" or "yeah those stock parts should fit" -- none of them do and none of them will Just buy all the fasteners up front and save yourself 900 trips.

I installed the 05-06 SS style 14bolt/9.5" rearend in mine. 100% bolt in, bleed the brakes and drive. Brakes are as good as disc's and no side effects. I used the eaton posi and a 1350 yoke. Neat thing is this rearend only weighs 32 lbs. total more than the 10 bolt. I could not find aftermarket 33 spline axles/6 lug so I used the GM 33 spline/6 lug.

As far as wheels I'm running 30"tallx13.50x15 M/T streets on 15x10 steel wheels with 6-3/4' backspace. They tuck under the fender wells great.

When my server gets back up that hosts my pics and videos I'll post some.
