80E upgrades?
#1
So I finally bought a 80E. It's from a 2003 2500hd 2wd.
Fluid is darkish red. Doesn't smell burnt. It's going in a 01 Yukon with a 5.3/cam and boost. Thinking a 3200-3600 stall? Rev Max? FTI? (budget friendly)
What's the bare minimum I should do? Besides a shift kit. I just want to get this back on the road. Billet input shaft? Plan on running about 13-16psi.

How much power does it make? Def a shift kit like you mentioned or even dual feed mod it. Probably won't need a billet input shaft if you won't be locking tc at wot. I have heard about some billet input shafts snapping anyways, but read the Jakes billet shaft is the strongest. I didn't do one because I was in a hurry to get the truck back on the road.

Stock input shaft lasted a couple years at 1000hp, wasn't until I went to 4 slicks that it broke on the 4th or 5th run on the 2-3 shift.
Generally just try to make sure the intermediate clutches are set up nice and tight because they always get beat up in the 80s.

Is your Yukon 2wd as well? There are a few mods needed if not.
See my thread if you want to go nuts on a rebuild. Drilled drum, internal dual feed and all new clutches solenoids and such.
Transgo has a good dual feed kit that doesn't require taking the trans apart.
Oh, I'm going turbo with a max of 550-600 ftlbs tq at the wheels. I picked up a circle-d converter for $550. Give em a call. They're nice and patient.... They put up with me after all
