80E 2wd conversion lesson learned

First, don't buy a custom cross member from speed engineering (see https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo....php?t=382295). Second, don't buy a custom cross member at all. Third, don't get out your welder...
Just buy a 2500HD cross member for an 80E in the same year as your truck. MSRP is ~$138 or $148, so even if you pay that price, it's over half off of most custom pieces. If you know your parts guy well enough, you can get it for close to a hunnert.

I looked HEAVILY into this too when I was doing the swap. What did you do? Drill holes in the frame to mount it with?
I think I had a bunch of fuel pump and fuel lines right there. I didn't feel comfy drilling and having bolts hanging up there, althoguh I'm sure if I would have taken the proper precautions I would have been fine.
