Default 700r4 Skipping 2nd

So I confirmed with 2 different shops today that my truck is in fact skipping second gear. It sounded like it to me, but I wanted more educated opinions.

Now comes the bad part. Both shops told me upwards of $1600 for a full rebuild if it so needs.

Any advice for things I can do myself first? For that price I'd rather go with a full engine and trans swap from the junkyard.

Nows the time to swap a 4l80e in, esp since you tow.

Everyone else has pretty much said the 60 if I was going that route. Mostly because I don't tow a lot, so the 80 isn't really needed.

$2800 for the 6.0 swap is starting to sound pretty good.

What is in your truck now? I have a 60E in my truck with LS1 , if built right then it can be a great transmission

As for your 700R4 , there is a patch job you can do that I really hate to say but you can.....Pull the servo cover off that houses the 2nd and 4th gear band. you can get to this without pulling the trans....pull the servos/pin out, and weld .200 onto the tip, this will engauge the band sooner and firmer..Its totally a redneck way to fix a trans but it will work if money is tight

Didn't you say in your other thread you pull a trailer or trailers ? The 60 is the same as a 700r is. Your going to pay 2k or so for a good built 60e trans, I would suggest a built 60 at a minimum behind a 6.0. The 80 is just a stronger unit, even in stock for it is as strong as a built 60.

I do pull trailers, but not frequently. It's more of a situational because some of our team has diesel trucks... but obviously when they aren't available I pull what I can.

So you're saying I should go with an 80 instead of a 60 then?
