Default 6.0 l96 swap in place of l9h 6.2

does anybody know if a l96 6.0 out of a 2010 silverado 2500 will go into a 2009 silverado 1500 with a l9h 6.2? will the wiring be the same, same reluctor rings for crank and cam sensor? 6.2 has no afm but has vvt just like the 6.0. just wondering if it is worth the hassle, beings i have a good running 6.0 instead of finding another 6.2. Or would anybody know any shops to talk to that does these kind of swaps?

Yes, it's a direct swap. Everything will plug in the same in that situation.

It would just need to be tuned for the smaller displacement and different VVT settings that a 6.0 uses.

so am i better off using the 6.0 intake and injectors? the fuel pump pressure and volume will be the same? how big of deal is it to tune it and any idea who does a good job doing that? it will still start and run after installing it then? i just dont want to go through the work swapping them and run into some problems. also will the exhaust manifolds need to be swapped or will the 6.2 exhaust bolt directly to the 6.0 manifolds? thanks so much for your help.

another question is will the flywheel need to be changed as the 6.2 with 6l80e is 3 bolt converter and 6.0 6l90e is 6 bolt i think. and should i use the ecm from the 6.0?

All the exterior parts will be the same. The balancer, brackets, exhaust manifolds etc etc.

For it to start up and run you need to use the injectors from the 6.2 truck because that is what the 6.2 computer is programmed for. The 6.0 computer can not be swapped because the engine and transmission calibrations must match each other. The 6.0 computer is mated to a 6L90e and not a 6L80e that uses a different TCM. You need to use the flywheel that matches the 6L80e torque converter.

It does need to be tune to run 100% correctly. There is a pretty big difference in the tunes when you compare them. The fueling demands of the 6.0 are different than the 6.2 and the timing curves and VVT settings on the 6.2 are way different than the 6.0. It will still run with the 6.2 tune in it but it won't run the best, might not get the best fuel mileage and there is a good chance it starts throwing check engine lights for errors related to the airflow/fueling model.

I said you need to use the 6.2 injectors.

Now you are being a little confusing. The thread was about just swapping the engine because that was the only thing that was bad. Are you swapping both the engine and transmission or keeping the transmission that is in your 2009 Silverado?

If you swap both the engine and transmission, that is another series of steps that further complicate things. The truck itself won't start and drive if you do that. Now you run into a VATS problem and then the PCM/TCM are now different than what the BCM knows. You'd have a 2500 trucks calibration in a 1500 chassis.

Like I said to keep this simple, only swap the engine, flexplate and fuel injectors. It will start and run on the 6.2 tune. I don't know where you live, so I couldn't tell you what may be in your area for tuning. That is some stuff you'll need to figure out.

ok no its engine only in the 1500 silverado. we dont have any tuners near us in north dakota, but maybe could do a blackbear or such tune online, not sure how that works out. possibly going to put a different cam in before installing, any recommendations for small cam keeping stock converter and vvt? or could delete vvt i suppose but just gonna be a daily driver. the transmission is going in a different 2500 pickup that will be a direct swap and then probably flash the tcm which i can do. i just have no tuning experience and dont know of anybody within 100 miles of me that do any of it. thanks for your help your awesome.

1. Blackbear is good and is what you want. You can mail them your PCM (I think) or get a tool to plug into the OBD2 port and flash the computer.
2. Just get a small 20x/21x cam. This would work great: https://www.texas-speed.com/p-8555-t...-camshaft.aspx
3. Just delete VVT.

I’ll do some checking locally first and see if I can find anybody that tunes, otherwise ill
check with blackbear! Trying to decide if a new cam is worth it or just put the stock motor in! Thanks for all the help!
