Default 4x4 suspension

want to lower an 01 silverad 4x4.... how much drop can i get in the front from decranking the torsion bars??

I wouldn't take it much more than an inch either way. Get some lowering spindles and then adjust the torsions a little to suit. If you detwist you will be riding hard on the bumpstops, you should trim or replace them.

for the rear if i want to take out the blocks and install lowering shackles is there anything else that i need?? i think i remeber reading that i need some new u-bolts.... is this true?

2wd u-bolts (shorter), yes. I did shackles and hangars but I would recommend doing it with the blocks and shackles. You might need to shim for correct pinion angle when done, mine took 4*.
