4x4 lever growls at 60+mph???
Have an annoying problem with my '04 GMC 2500HD crew 4x4 gasser 6.0/4L80 with floor shift transfer case, about 45,000 miles on it. On the highway at speeds above 60mph in 2wd the shift lever makes a low pitched growl or rattle sound. Seems to do it worst when slowing down from 75 or so to 55-60. Does it in both 3rd & 4th gear. It doesn't make the sound at slower speeds. I've taken the shifter out of the floorboard and everything is tight & clean. Put grease in the linkage sockets and lubed all the moving parts, all other fluids are fresh & full....still growls. Anyone know a fix?

is it more of a rattle sound?? can you change the pitch or make it go away completely by holding onto the shifter while its doing this??? check the linkage, there should be some foam type washers/spacers between the rods and the t-case I believe, if those are gone they will make a rattliing noise
