4x4 gear swap questions?
#1
for those of you who have changed gears in a 4x4 did u swap out the whole front differential housing or the gears itself and why? also does anyone know if the housings on a 2006 are the same as the nnbs 2007? the nnbs are wider by the specs from wheel to wheel but i need to know if the differential housing will swap interchangeble?

I changed the whole front diff. I got a good deal on a low mile unit with the gearing I wanted and was actually about the same money as buying the gears and the install kit.
Can't speak to your interchangeable question.

Well I would have swapped out the gears if I hadn't ran into the differential. Not that I wanted to. At the time I had never set up any gears. Got lucky and yeah it was a piece of cake swapping it out.

I am almost positive the NNBS and the NBS are the same diffs. I looked at an 08 avy and it looks like the same exact diff. Right down to the mounting tabs on the passenger shaft, ect. The front diffs are easy to change gears in btw.

does anyone know what the size of my front diff. is? i have the 9.5 rear. do i still have the 8.25 front like the other 1/2 tons? or will i have the 9.25 like the 3/4? cant seem to find it. i think when the had the heavy halfs it still had the 8.25 up front. its not called that anymore but my truck seems to be set up that way cause of the 6.0

I just finished a gear swap in my NNBS 07 VMax. It is a 8.25 in the front. The rear is a 14 bolt 9.5 ring gear. I went from 3.73's to 4.56's and damn what a difference. No more lugging of the line with the new wheels and 35s. I also added a detroit tru trac in the rear and I could not be happier. I went with yukon gears btw. So far so good. Good luck to you!
