Default 4th gear servo and TQ management

Two more questions b4 shift kit install
1. Is the 4th gear servo really necessary?
2. Will I be able to remove 100% tq management with the shift kit and vette servo and expect teh tranny to last?
Thanks for the help, buying parts now is cheaper than a tranny rebuild

1) No, it's not necessary.
2) Personal preference...and you'll likely hear some varied opinions on this. I'm not sure I would want all of my TM removed on a 4L60E...a 4L80E maybe, but a 4L60E is a little more delicate. Maybe 90% or 95% would be a better choice.

My current tranny has survived for a year and a half now with nothing but a vette servo and transgo. It was a brand new Serta replacement and I put the shiftkit in a week after it was installed. Now my first tranny lost third gear only a few months after removing tqm. Second tranny had only a vette servo and I completely grenaded it the planetaries on it. I though this one was going out a few months ago and it seems to have been the converter instead. I am very pleased with how well this one has held up.

How difficult is the HD2 installation? I did a shift kit in a 700R4 in my driveway one evening. How much more involved is the 4L60E?

I can personally tell you that it's not a hard install, but a time consuming involved process. I did the install on the Wood Haulers truck and it went well. I would recommend getting some transgel from a trans shop to help hold a few of the parts like the spring that goes in the little screen on the sep. plate and also for one of the check ***** I think. Definetly get the Transgo sep. plate, an aluminum 1-2 accumulator piston, and you might want to go ahead and invest in new screens for your seperator plate as the old ones are quite brittle and will probably break when you try to remove them, (his did). I would recommend only using 1 washer in the accum. housing unless you like really, really positive part throttle shifts. We drilled all the holes in his plate for full race because he runs a 3000-3500 converter. Just follow Transgo's instructions to a T and everything will be fine.

I did mine on jackstands in the drive way and wasnt that difficult but it was messy. I was covered in ATF. A lift would make the process alot less messy.

You can get the screens at the dealer, they are expensive even from them.
