I was just wondering how much performance should I expect to lose going to the 80 from my 60? Also being that I have an 02 does it matter what year 80 I get? Also should I get a built 80 or will a stock 80 with a shift kit hold up fine with my set up?

My bad, the last post I read he had just an 80 w/shift kit. Must have missed that

a standard 80 will work with a shift kit. i went to a built 80 since i didnt want to have to worry about it any more. except a part failure. something in the valve body let loose. i have an 02 and i am running a 1997 80e. the pin outs on the harness are the same. the only difference is the spacing of the verter. it will command an extra 40 to 50 ponies to run the 80e as well over the 60e.

Why are you going with a 4L80E with a regular cab 4.8 anyway? Why not run a stage 5 FLP 4L65E with the converter you allready have? Then you don't have to worry how much horsepower you'll lose and you can run your current tuning..

future plans include a 427 swap and the stage 5 cost about the same as a 4l80 swap. I also talked to vicki at PI and she said my converter will not work with a 65e. She said she con modify it to work on a 65 or an 80. Then I talked to phill at flp he said he would go with an 80 since I have future plans on upgrading the motor. I will just have to make up the difference in power with other mods in the mean time.Originally Posted by whitt1
