4L80E Swap Crossmember Mod (pics)

As some of you know, sharpshooter and I are swapping to FLT Level 4-4L80E's. We finished his truck up a couple of weeks ago. I'm in the process of getting my truck cometely ready for when the tranny gets here. Pretty much the only thing I have left to do is the wiring for the speed sensor, which will be done this weekend. I worked on my crossmember today, so I thought I'd post up a few pics. I'll post up more tomorrow after it's painted. I used an 8" piece of 1/4" angle iron. It's welded on the crossmember, and the two holes attached to the crossmember is where 1/2" grade 8 bolts will also help hold it for insurance.

Keep your brain open, I am going to be picking it soon, about the wiring and all needed to be done to make the 4l80 a home in the 60 spot..

Hmmm seems to me that option is a lot easier than cutting down the crossmember to extend it. Are you going to install some gussets on the ends and in the middle for "twisting" support.
|
I think this is 4wd tho^ What your talking about it typically for 2wd where it needs to move 6 inches or so
|
No, I'm not going to use gussets. I actually made gussets to weld in, but decided against using them. It's 1/4" thick angle iron, it's not going to move. By measurement, the new location of the transmission mount will only be 1 1/8" onto the angle iron.

yea the 4wd has a different x member too right? It looks like your talshaft bushing is different mount too. Post up some pics when ya get it all in! Are the wires the same for you as a 2wd? ( I had to add a vss sensor and change two pins in the harness that goes into the trans.)
