Well I think the best candidate is a 2 piece from a 2006 Silverado SS. Its a 2WD, and it has the 1350 yokes already. Just need to get it shortened and balanced, and mount the bitch up....easier said than done though, I'm sure.

May be a bit pricey though, given the origin. Anybody know of a suitable replacement if I can't find one of those from the SS?

I swapped mine in. And with the new output yoke it fit perfectly. But for you who knows if it is a direct fit. But you could get a shaft for fairly cheap and get it reworked. But buying that center bearing and everything separate would add up.

I'm gonna call a local drive shaft shop and see what they have to offer. They may be able to make something that's budget friendly but still what I want. Only issue is I'll need the tranny installed before I can order it cause I won't know the dimensions until then.

What year 80e do you guys use when you do the swap? Should be any year style that bolts to the LS-style engines, right?

I don't know what years had any significant upgrades but any year should work.

Do the 80e's from the old 5.7s have a different bell housing?

It's taking forever to get parts

Hopefully I'll have made some progress on the transmission front tomorrow morning.

What year? My 2000 was behind a 5.7L Van, but it had 7 bolt holes (old SBC pattern and LSx pattern). GM used the 5.7 in vans till '02.

FINALLY.

Found a decent transmission. Used, warrantied 4L80e out of a 2006 Silverado 2500HD with a 6.0L with 23,000 miles on it for $934. Assuming everything is all kosher, I'll put the HD2 shift kit in it and call it a day. Will update...

since it came up in this post and i know your looking at options. i went back and forth with some emails with brent from driveshaft specialist inc. he recommended to me a 5" dia .125 wall alum shaft. he said the problems the oem ones face is they are only .064 thick. told me hes got long ones in big diesels makin 1400 ft lbs of torque and didnt worry when i told him id like it to turn 6500 rpm. all said and done if i send him my billet yoke he could do it for 545
