I chose based on who was local and reputation. I didn't want to deal with freight shipping. Jake built my transmission in less than 1 week and had very good communication. Customer service (if necessary) after the sale remains to be seen but dealing in person and seeing the shop and what goes into the build was more important to me at this time.

well for me i move every 2-4 years with the military so local to me isnt an issue. i will take your advice however and call each one. its going to be jakes or rpm for me at this point and see what im looking at. its going to be a few more weeks until i have the money since i have to eat the core charge.

I didn't even really consider RPM. Their top dog 80e is over $5000 and Jake's is $3700.

Also, go for the 94-96 core. It's cheaper and preferred for power handling. Also, going from the 60, you're cooler line positions will be the same.

FLT was my second consideration.

I will say this, and I can break it down part by part for you guys if you would really like, if you're comparing a Jake's vs RPM unit, you are paying a LOT more for an RPM unit. The price doesn't reflect a high quality build so much as it does the name and reputation in this case. Not saying their build isn't solid, it's just a lot of extra money for nothing extra into the actual product itself, and depending on the build, it's even less.

Working with Gilbert at ACE now on my build. LOVE his communication. Atomic has beat the crap out of Gilbert's build in that heavy truck of his. My jake's level 2 lasted over a year, But I am giving Gilbert a shot at now.

I have only dealt with performabuilt. I ordered a 60e and converter and it showed up fast. I thought I had some problems with it ( was stupid *** tuner I was using not trans, long story there) . I called them and I think they had another trans and converter on the truck to me before we got off the phone.it was great great to work with. after my tuner burnt the second up I went with an 80e out of a junk yard and a new tuner. been saving up since to get another 80e from performabuild base on how well they took care of me on the 60e. out of all my dealing with people on this board they are in the top 3 easiest to deal with. I'm not saying Jake or any other is not as good just haven't used them yet.

Give freak show performance in abeline tx a call. They build most of glides and th400 for the local classes here with cars running 4.xx in the 1/8 mile. I had him build me a 4l60 for my truck and it has been great!
