Default 4L80e aftermarket pan

Hey everyone, I have a 2001 Silverado 1500 that has a 4L80e in it(has about 40k on it since I swapped it. It was a fresh rebuild when I swapped it in). I stupidly used a cork pan gasket during the rebuild and it has been seeping fluid pretty much every since. The truck will be getting a 6.0 swap this fall/winter so I am fixing little odds and ends that I have been neglecting. Since I am pulling the pan to replace the gasket I’m wondering if it might be worth to buy a deep pan to increase the oil capacity by several qts. I already have the tru cool 40k so thats handled but I don’t have a trans temp gauge so I have never really been able to monitor temps. It is a Z71 and I use it as a truck. The heaviest loads I pull are about 6k-7k range but thats only occasionally.

Also, I have pacesetter LT’s with the 3” ory pipe so im concerned a deeper pan would interfere with the y pipe. Does anyone have experience with deep pans on the 4L80e’s and 3” y pipes where it crosses under the trans pan?

Thanks everyone.

I doubt a deep pan is necessary. My truck with a trucool 40k barely gets up to 180F pulling my boat up a slow grade in summer.

Now if your pan doesn't have the drain plug, that might be a nice change.

The current pan that’s on it does have a drain plug. Really the only reason I’m even considering upgrading is for the increase in capacity and chance that it might run a little cooler.

From the looks of the aftermarket pans I have seen, I think I would have a problem getting them to fit with my 3” ORY pipe.

Larger pan only holds more fluid, It just takes longer to heat up that extra fluid.

Id use that money elsewhere unless you just want to go for it. It wont hurt either way.

The 40k cooler is all the cooling you need.

Ok thanks guys, I guess I was looking for justification for buying a new pan but that money will be better spent somewhere else. I have already bought 8qts of dex 6 and will picking the filter this evening so I will be swapping the gasket and changing the filter at some point this week.

Provided it is plumbed in after the stock radiator cooler. On its own it is not. My 4L85E dropped 30-40°F when towing with the factory cooler in the loop.

I have a deep moroso aluminum pan for the same reason I have aluminum valve covers rather than stamped steel on my Gen1 SBC. The super thick flanges are much less prone to distorting and leaking. The extra fluid also keeps the transmission cooler when you are in periods of high demand at slow speeds. I regularly tow 6-7K with a 2,800 converter.
