4l80 2wd to 4wd ?
Long time visitor, just like the title says. I can get a 4l80 2wd for almost free. What do i need to convert to 4wd , also swap into my truck. About my truck its a 2001 short bed step side. I owed it from when i was 19, 32 now. It was stock up till last year. It dynos at 506wrhp Keene Bell 2.8 @9psi, Trick Flow heads and cam, bolt-on's and meth. So yeah, the trans will not last. I work a lot of hours so pardon any delay in my responses. I newbie to this performance world. Thanks, Bill Please fell free to move if posted in the wrong section.

The whole thing has to come apart to swap the rear output shaft.
You also need to pull the drain plug in the back of the trans and in stall a lube plug with orifice...
This thread talks about the difference of a 4L80E 4x4 to a 2wd conversion.

Thanks for the replies. I probably will wait for a 4wd one with the transfer case. It sucks, because of the 60 is pretty weak. Oh well, it has not been a daily for like 10 years. Every one says build the 60. They do not understand 4500 pounds, 500 horse equals kaboom.

Its been a while, but I finally snagged a 4l80 with an auto trac transfer case. It came out of a 2002 1500HD. Any ideas if the transfer case will work with my truck that also has the auto trac feature. Also who sell a good rebuild kit. Thanks for your time.
