4WD and 5500lbs. That ECSB is a heavy bugger. Do you think I can tow with a 3K stall or should I go 2800.

Well I got PM from Dave at Rock-On he told me some stuff about his level 5 4L60e, and I believe it should be good enough to go threw the hell I put on one. I want to bump my stall up to 3200 to help my 60ft. some, and I believe that level 5 should hold me for a while. Now its time for the fun part saving up and see if I can tell the fokes Santa needs to be packing a built 4L60 under the tree this year. hahaa

Before I decided to go 80e, my 60e and a Yank 3000 did fine. It would get up in temps if you are towing in alot of stop and go areas. But did just fine. I now have a 2800 in the 80e. It's different...but it works great for towing as well. It's a preference thing, as long as you have a cam that can make something out of a 3K stall (or vice a versa) it would be a preference thing.

Some more info on the 60/65Es:
Edit: non sponsor link

Down the page they don't seem to think that a built 60/65 is suitable for FI heavy trucks(Tahoe is mentioned). Although they do say that they expect to have a 1000 hp rated 60 soon.

What does the Level 5 include over the Level 4 shown on their site?

This is what Dave told me from Rock-On, "Our level 4 can handle what your doing. Our level 5 is 2145.00 and has a billett pump and hardened shafts, It basically can handle alot more hp. without the front pump issues. Our level 5 has a billett rotor to handle the fliud pressure and extreams thrown at it by nitrous. Also helps with boosted pressure". I believe that will be the trans for me. I would like to have a 80e but I dont fell like buying new converter and swapping all harnesses, and getting retuned. He said its pretty badass 4L60, and with a 3200 stall it would be the perfect setup for the Procharger.

While RockOn is building my 4l80e, i am running a th-400. I had a built 4l60e. I mention the th-400 because it has the same gearset as a 4l80e and we can compare times. My car lost NO ET with the 400 vs the 4l60e. I was surprised but i THINK that its because I am turbo'd. The 3.06 vs 2.48 1st gear is the main difference. The turbos like load and I think the 2.48 first gear helps me build boost faster and thats why i didnt lose any time at the track. Also...with the 4l60e I had a 3200-3800 stall (tried 3 different converters)...in the th-400, i have a 2800 stall. Now gas mileage...of course i lost 2-3mpg on the highway due to no O/D..in town I lost 4-5 mpg!!!!! Again i think its due to that 1st gear. Just some info to ponder...

Thats good information. I figured with a 2800stall converter which is 20lbs less than the stock converter there would be some tradeoffs. Does anyone know what the 4l80 stock converter stalls at?

2000, the 2800 worked great for me. I had to throw the stock one back in because I burnt up the clutches in the Art Carr 2800. It is only 9 1/2 inches in diameter so it does not have alot of clutch surface. I'm gonna see if they can put better clutches in it.
