Default 4l60e output shaft?

What do the center splines on the 4wd output shaft do? I have a billet output shaft that I would like to sell but there are some nicks in the center splines for some reason. I bought it used like that and never had a problem with it but I don't want to sell somebody junk.

That's what I thought too but I believe the speed sensor is in the transfer case on 4wd.
