I'm trying to remove the oil pump from my 4L60E and I'm having a hell of a time. I've heard a lot of people say that you don't have to remove the bell housing. But trying to slide the pump out, it looks like a very tight squeeze. I tried to remove the bell housing bolts... but holy crap are they tight. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but its out of a 2005 GMC Sierra Z71. Any tips?

Remove the bell or you are going to have issues. The bell bolts are T55plus bolts and I strongly suggest getting the correct bit to remove these. Also make sure you removed the filter and also the lockup solenoid.

Yea, its possible to get the pump out with the bellhousing on but boy does it suck.

I bought the bit from whatever it takes transmission and that lil bugger was $20

You can find it at any autoparts store or home depot/lowes for a few bucks.

Did you pull the pan and unbolt the tcc solenoid?
