Default 4l60e limits

I have a 2002 ecsb. 33'' at tires. 4.88 gear. 4760lbs with me in it and 1/4 tank after a little weight reduction. Longtubes. Good cai. Nelson tune . odds n ends 140000 miles

I have 2 issues my cash is a little tight and I don't wanna kill the 4l60e quite yet, but I want to do a wet 50 shot of nitrous for now until my cash gets better and I can afford a flt 5 or 6 , then up the n20 and get a pair of turbos.

Am I going to be pushing the truck for the old 4l60e issues?

I did the 3.73 to 4.88 to protect the tranny from being overloaded since at one time this truck weighed a shade over 6000lbs.
Then I gutted almost 1300lbs out of it to help the tranny not die lol
Current atf fluid temps NEVER exceed 165 according to data acquisition, and according to load sensor at 55 on cruise I'm at 11% down from 19%
Nitrous tq gains scare me a bit.

Thanks and sorry for the book.

If your cash is tight, then hold off on the 50 shot. On a stock 60e with 140k miles, it isn't going to last long. I killed my first stock 60e with just a tune, cold air intake and a Magnaflow at 70k miles.

If you are convinced you have to have the 50 shot, invest in a big trans cooler, an HD2 shift kit, Corvette servos and Sonnax billet OD servos. That may help get another 15k miles out of it, then again, it may not.

On #3 in mine.... At 267k miles, granted most of which was stock engine with 3.73 and 35s then i swapped to 4.10 basically 60k or so before the 2nd one went out...

Curious where you shaved 1300lbs, not to jack the thread but i have been thinking about that for a while and with lift, 35s etc seems im just adding weight with no reduction in sight

I'd suggest saving money and doing a 4l80e swap.

Used trans + dual feed (Transgo), $600 if you search.
Flex plate spacer, $50
Cross member free if you can weld.
Front/rear driveshafts, $300
Tuning segment swap, HP tuners, $500
Good torque converter, $500
If 4x4 transfer case parts, $100
Trans cooler line mods if using 97 or newer, $50

If you're handy and patient you can do it for $2000, or a little less. I'd wager you would spend far less in the long run. Personally my spreadsheet puts my build at a conservative $2,491.83 since I'm rebuilding my trans. Please don't tell my wife.

Or if you want FLT makes some great 4l80es.

I was under $1400 on my 2wd and that is including a Transgo HD2 kit, B82 factory high stall, and a massive cooler with AN hoses and fittings plumbed in line with the factory in-radiator cooler. I had HP Tuners already. Stock 4L80E with a shift kit will hold more than the best built 60/65/70E.

We would all like to have 4l80es but sonetimes its just not feasible, these trucks shouldve all come with 4l80es imho but there are 60s that have lasted and held up just as long as some of the 80s...ive killed 2 80s myself quicker than i have the 60s in my 99 maybe its driving habits who knows!!! Just my .02
As far as not telling your wife, theres two things ive learned dont get married and if you find someone worth marrying its easier to ask forgiveness than permission
