4L60/65E and going fast...

Who else is trying to make a go of it on a 60/65 trans? My truck only weighs 4180 in street trim and I am going to try to launch harder real soon.

Who is Ernie Brooks? Not sure how your unit was built and also what parts are in it. I personally think that a billet output shaft and 5 pinion planets are a good idea for any 60E based unit in a performance application. Just throwing this out there. The one thing you have going for you is the weight of the vehicle. What kind of HP #'s are you getting with that turbo combo?

He is a mechanic that works with me. He built the trans with a lot of help from all the guys at FLT. They sold me parts after I showed them pics of the old unit I bought from
another member. 1slohoe or something like that, it came apart when the driveshaft failed on a dyno run in Florida. It has a hardened input and output shafts , but not billet. It shifts amazing. I can build boost at 66 mph and leave two black lines and then it chirps 3rd @ 89mph. I have no idea on power. I turn 91 mph in the 1/8th mile in hot south Ga weather.

My Camaro runs 10.22 @ 132 on a 1.42 60' weighs 3258 lbs 4l60e
My truck has a best run of 14.0 @ 94 on 30 in tires 4,400lbs 4l60e.
Both my 4l60e's I built with the beast shell, dual cage sprag, sonnax input drum sleeve with billet forward piuston. high rpm pump spring, rebestos 3-4 z-pack, corvette servo, HD 2-3 shift valve. wide read sungear bushing wide rear stator support bushing and teflon coated sunshell thrush washers.. Make sure to keep the 1-2 shift acc. spring in...do not remove it. you do not want a BANG shift this is why most people break parts.

Sounds like your putting a good amount power down. I also want to add I have seen the 60e's hold up better with smaller diameter converters. The factory converter is 55lbs and a good 245mm yank converter is 30lbs. It sure does help cushing the shifts and take the shock off the output shaft, planetaries, etc....

If you want it to last I would do something about this. Barking tires at 90mph is not necessary and a good way to break hard parts. Also, I think the best mod you could do for your truck would be to add a 3400 Yank. That would have you leaving the line like you want.

I plan on running either a FLT level 6 or 7 in my ECSB 4WD truck once I get the turbo on. All track runs will be in 4WD and with a 2500-2800 stall. Also planning on running no more then 12psi on the 60E.

i just bought a pb level 2 60e for my new setup.i don't want to go with a 80e.its going to see some hard launches.if it doesnt hold, big deal..put you a bigger converter in there and a 2 step and let her rip.
