i'm just obeying the installers request. ive seen some funky things happen before too. 500 miles usually happens in less than a week for me anyways, and it's nice to get to enjoy the truck for a while too.

I bought a set of 4.56 mystery gears from a seller on this site. Pretty quiet with dealer install. Got hosed by the dealer for how much they charged. G80 broke and was supposed to be warrantied. Charged me over a grand and it still has a G80.

stew, what are you thoughts about the 4.30s? what gears did you have before? would you recommend 4.30s over 3.73s?

i got to get on it yesterday from a 30 punch. i am all grins so far, but the track will tell the entire story. it feels better up to 120 though. but it could also be in my head.

DD wise, ehh? i DD'd it 500 miles this week and kept catching myself only going 60mph on the freeway because of the rpm i never noticed that i knew my speed by listening to the rpm. 2,000 rpm is where my ears set my foot, and that is 60mph now lol. just something to get used to i guess. 4.10 is definatley a better DD gear, but 4.30 is doable. luckily mine isnt a DD truck. it does feel quicker now though.

it's hard to say 1 gear is better than another because there are so many variables. is it a street truck/race truck, where is power made, 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile? i went with 4.30 because of the nitrous. if i was all motor i would have gone with the 4.56.

I know just what you mean. After I went from 3.73 to 4.56 the amount of RPM that used to be 75mph is now 60mph. It doesn't bother me much listening to the higher RPM on the interstate but, if I'm in no hurry I take the back roads and go 60 cause its a little quieter. When I was in HS I drove a 67 Chevrolet truck that had 4.10's and a 4 speed. Its funny now that RPM was the norm for me then and what I have gotten used to in my old age... (30) LOL!

As far as setting up the pinion depth with new gears, is it possible that you will only be reusing the factory pinion shim alone? I know when I set up my tru trac a couple months back I reused the factory carrier shims and all is fine...
