Default 3.42 vs 3.73

Ok here's the deal,I had a feeling about my rear diff and decided to take the cover off and investigate. Come to find out there's little teeth at the bottom of the pumpkin and they're from the small spider gear.

So my question is what would y'all do? Keep the 3.42 and replace the spider gears or go ahead and do 3.73 before I get a re-tune in October? It's for the truck in my sig and I plan on in the future doing a 3200-3600 stall. I posted a thread asking I anybody had any 3.73's laying around but had no luck. Thanks fellas.

With that cam 3.73s would be better than the 3.42. 4.10s would be even better.

Thought about welding up the spider gears to hold me over for a bit and get some change saved up to do exactly what I want. Also if I get the gears after I get a re-tune in October what will I do about the tune?

3.73's are a good choice, But the 4.11,s even better. But I would dump the stock diff and go with a tru-trac or detroit locker.
If you are driving this truck on the street I would not advise welding the spiders. This would lock both axles together. Doin donuts would be a blast though. lol

I'm gonna give Fort Worth Gear and Axle a call today and get some prices. Yeah I thought about it and welding them up didn't make sense.

I know its your money Im spending but get a good Eaton/Truetrac LSD,3.73 gears, installation kit and be done with it.

Roughly $750-800 in parts and gear oil. Another $200 or so for installation unless you do it yourself.

True Trac and 4.10s. A cam that big needs all the help it can get...especially with a stock converter. 3.73 won't be a big enough change.

I agree with everyone else on the 4.10's. I run 3.73's and love them but thats in a reg cab truck. With an ext cab truck and that big of a cam you will need to turn more rpm to make that thing move and stay in the power band of the cam.

I'm gonna give them a call today and get some prices. I'd like to go 4.10's but I have the slightest clue of how to install gears and I know there's a sticky on here but I only have 1 day out of the week to do it and dont have that much confidence to do it and expect it to be correct. If anybody knows someone that's trustworthy to do it at a good rate let me know please and thanks.
