Default 2wd to 4wd conversion.

How hard is it to make a 97 model 2wd reg cab short bed to a 4wd with factory ifs? Yes it would be easier to buy a 4wd but I might be coming across a free 2wd seria and I'd like to drop my tahoe's complete drivetrain into it. Turbo and all. It's not for certain yet but I like to research way ahead of time.

Its not possible without a ton of modifying the frame. The front of the framerails are different.

yep. find yourself a 4x4 frame to swap to your truck. whoooole lota work.... maybe cut the front section of your tahoe frame off and graft it onto your 2wd truck frame? seems like a lotta work to keep an IFS 4x4 front...

i may look into a 4x4 frame. but if i do that i need to find out if a 2004 front axle will bolt into a 97 4x4 frame. if so i can keep my awd front axle. 630awhp in a 4000lb pickup would be FUN!! if it comes to be too much cost to get a frame i guess i'd have to build one hell of a rear suspension to keep it hooked in 2wd. but i have to keep a transfer case of some sort cause i have a 4wd tranny. and I'm NOT gonna give up my flt 7. i have a modified autotrac case i built to be only 2wd i could use. i guess i'd just have to build a custom trans mount for it.

Best thing to do would be calla few local yards and ask them about a full frame for the truck. If you reserve one and let them strip it as they go, you might be able to be able to pickup a from for as little a $200.

Check out www.car-part.com they list full frames.
