It's just how I did it.. My first idea wasn't going to work as I planned.. So I just took one of my dirt track wheels and cut the center out and used that as a pattern..

Might want to clamp it down to a flat surface and set up a guage to check run out of the hub surface. The heat on a mig welder isn't concentrated enough and has a tendancy to warp the heck out of the metal, tig would have been a better choice even though it takes longer to fill the hole.
