14 Bolt Swap Questions
Hey guys, looking at my options to swap over to a 14 bolt from my 10. Seems like a smart/safe thing to do at this point.
I was told these are my donors for a direct 6 lug swap... 04-06 VHO trucks 05+ 2wd SSS trucks 06-07 GMT800 Vmax trucks 2wd and 4wd 07-09 GMT900 Vmax trucks 2wd and 4wd 09+ 6.2 equipped trucks both NHT and Denalis GMT900 SUVs equipped with the 6.2 like Denalis and Escalades Found this on Craigs. GM 14 bolt, 3.42's and 6 lug, semi-floater. Said to be out of a light 2500 but not sure what year. It's got a drum brake setup. I called and he believes it's a fit for me. He says it was match to his 95 silverado so that makes me wonder if it's still match for me. Says its got the GM POSI as well, I know the 10 bolt one was crap, is 14 bolt a good unit? It's a drum setup, how bad is swap to disc? Thanks for the help guys. __________________ |

Here's the pic's he sent me and god bless, looks like it's off a damn railroad train. Brackets look correct though. Needs a good cleaning and disc swap if it's doable.

only thing you have to watch out for the rear end itself is the bearings.

heres a pretty good thread for info:
https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...p-pics-489403/ i believe the nbs rear ends are 1" wider then the older 14 bolts so it wont hurt to measure your 10 bolt then measure the new axle just to check. |
Got a little more rust then id like but I would have him check the distance leaf to leaf cause they change from body style to body style but idk if the 95 to 99+ would match but I know the 70s and 80s dont fit the 90s.

yea thats gonna need a lil more power to turn

I'm thinking a built 14 bolt and doing a long bar setup up to the frame rails. Then I can hit this redhead pretty hard out the gate. |
DO IT!! I agree, getting up on the fine line of scary with the 10 bolt.

Foose, if thats out of a 95, then it will work, but you have to move the spring perches on it. I believe its 2" overall differance from spring perch to spring perch between your 10 bolt and that one. It will be easy to move them once you measure it compared to yours. As for the disc brakes I do not know. I thought Atomic did this swap in his old truck if i'm not mistaken.
Alot of good info in this thread, they did disc brakes too... https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...ight=bolt+swap |
Any G80 factory locker sucks and won't hold power.
I broke the one in my Dmax just putting in wet grass , I couldn't believe it . But rock it and see you never know . And that rust ain't bad at all I've seen ones that make that look new . |
