First tranny I built I used 2 servo shims. No upgraded internals, line pressure was turned up and the output shaft grenaded.

I recently bought some parts from Pro Built and other places. Pro built recommends NO shims. However I am inclined to go with 1 or 2 shims, but leave the line pressure stock.

Dana at Pro Built seems like he knows his stuff, but Im afraid the shifts wont be firm enough. I just dont want to have to tear it apart again if its not the way I like it. I do enjoy the very crisp shifts, but not neck snapping.

From what I've read on here if you do the boost valve with no stall converter then no shims if you do the boost valve and have a stall then 1 shim. Idk about no boost valve..

I'd try 1 shim. I've read you're not supposed to boost pressure in the tune if you're using the boost valve for fear of broken hard parts.

 

With the late housing I always use one shim with the gold spring seat.

 

You talking servo shims or accumulator shims? Sounds like you're talking about the 2nd gear accumulator.

 

I can verify that. My output shaft grenaded and took out EVERYTHING. both planetaries welded together, the case wasnt even salvagable.

MyLs1Hauls- Servo shims. the Transgo shift kit comes with 3 shims for the servo and gives you a guide in the instructions.

I think I'll stick with one this time and stock line pressure. should take it down a few notches.

 

The Intermediate/overdrive servo shims are gold, several inches in diameter, and only 2 are included. The accumulator shims are silver, and there are 3 of them. They look like thick flat washers.

You're right, it is the 3 silver ones. I am losing my mind with all these parts. Im trying to learn how all this stuff works and what exactly they are. Its overwhelming
