My only issue with aftermarket ball joints is 99% of the time the boot doesn't come installed on the joint. This is usually related to how the joint has to be pressed in but even on the OBS's and the bolt in joints they still just have a slip on boot that in no way or form makes a good seal. Why pay for new ball joints only to get sub standard boots that let water and dirt in? Thats the best thing about the OEM stuff is they are sealed up tight as a jug so long as the boots don't rip from dry rot or too much grease.

Thanks for all the replies. This is a great site!
I have found 2 ball joints in stock at my local NAPA, but I don't know who makes them. They are the better quality, napa chassis line.
I plan to recheck my ball joints tomorrow (under my shade tree), and see just how much play I find. The guy at the tire store was really working the prybar to get them to move, so if they feel acceptable to me, I'll try another alignment shop that has been recommended as a trustworthy shop.
If not, it's off to the parts store.
My truck has 60K miles, so I don't think these would be covered under warranty, but I'll check anyway.

Thanks,

Jeff

My truck is VortecMax LTZ with HD trailering and so on, and it has cast iron lower arms, and the joints are supposed to be seviceable. HTH

I think GM dropped the ball on the 07 and up. I have a 08 Tahoe, inner tire wear, all4 door locks motors replaced, 1 broken seat belt, and a broken door handle. My buddy at work is already having problems on his 2010. I think with the problems GM was going through they took some short cuts. My SS has had no problem, now at 76000 miles. Anyways I hope the ball joints are replaceable.

Well I've broken 3 door handles, got the inner tire wear, but, no problems with door locks or seat belts yet. LOL

When I jacked up the truck, I found the right side ball joint to be pretty loose and it actually popped when I levered the tire up and down.
The left side was not as bad, probably in specs, but I'll replace both sides.

I ordered 2 moog ball joints from Rock Auto today, I found I could get them for the same price as the NAPA ones (I think they're spicer/dana?) that were here in town, so I'll wait a coupla days for fedex to deliver the moog joints.
(Note: just got an eamil saying they were drop shipped from Lancaster, Tx, just up the road a ways, really. Go figure...)

Thanks for all the input, guys!

Jeff
