Default 06 Silverado 14 bolt 6 lug swap from 94 4x4

Hi guys I am new to the forum and was brought here because I was searching for 14 bolt 6 lug help and this forum was full of it. I am now building my 14 bolt and thought I would build a thread of my own. My first mistake: Out of excitement of finding a good deal I didn't pay attention and pulled a 2wd axle out of a truck. I cleaned it up really good and got a fresh coat of primer on it before i noticed.

I finally got rid of that axle 2 weeks ago. Then I ran up to the salvage yard where i found 14 bolt 4X4. I pulled it last weekend.

Im in the process of tearing it down and cleaning it. I have decided to re-gear this axle on my own. I will have to buy several new tools I'm sure but I know I can do it. I have already bought 2 30"+ pry bars to get the carrier out of the axle, and a bearing puller for the axle tubes.

I bought the same kit atomic bought from RuffStuff 14 Bolt Simple Swap - RuffStuff Specialties

And Im still waiting on a response from 1fastbrick about the weld on flanges.

Im waiting on all my new tools and new gears to arrive in the mail. The recent snow storm put delays on everything. In my boredom I kept buying stuff and was talked into buying a Eaton G80 Posi

Yah your thread was extremely helpful, and it pointed me to the best diff cover that thing is awesome. My 14 bolt should be just like yours except I'm using weld on flanges and a different limited slip.

Atomic later ended up putting a set of weld on flanges on his housing.

Why did you put a G80 in there. Also, with that axle, you do not need pry bars to remove he housing (think you figured that out already). What gears you putting in?

Ok the axle is finally rolling again. I bought a clamshell puller so I went again and replaced the carrier bearings, and it was a breeze!

A 5lb mini sledge and some wood knocked some news bearings on real easy.

This is the method i used to press on the new pinion bearing and it worked extremely well.

This well my gear pattern with factory shims. I add 2 shims to the pinion and set the preload and changed out the carrier shim with some 2 aftermarket thicker ones. Came out with a new perfect pattern I say.

These are brand new Yukon 4.56s, G2 master install kit. Yukon wheel bearings and seal. G80 was brand new pull off for 100 bucks. I don't have the money to put a Detroit locker in there so I picked this up instead.
