Default 04 ext drivetrain slop? bad clunking help!!!

hey guys my truck is a 04 ext escalade awd and i have had it since 40k miles and the truck has always had this problem but had goten a little worst.

i took it to the dealer i got it from(gm dealer) and they said every thing looked fine and that it was just a little slop/play in the awd system and thats when it had factory warranty.

now the truck has 79k on it and i do have an exstended warranty for a bit more.

when ever i put the truck in reverse it will hit/clunk or if i get on the gas and the tranny down shifts it will do it and also if im going 40-50 or so and i manually put in 2nd and give a little gas it will hit like there is slack.

what could be the problem?

thanks guys i just need some help before i take it to the dealer.

Well, I would check for the major things first, like u-joints, motor and tranny mounts, etc. If all those things check out ok, then more then likely its normal. Your always going to have a slight clunk when shifting between reverse and drive due to lash and normal clearances between gears. It usually is alittle worse in 4wd and Awd trucks due to the transfer case.

And the other clunk noise your describing sounds like it's happening on the 2-3 and 3-2 shifts. There is also going to be a clunking noise during those shifts that is considered normal. The 2-3 and 3-2 shifts are the only ones that are applying and releasing componets at the same time. When this happens the output shaft will torque backwards, and thus the noise. There is a reprogram out of it, but it only helps and will not totally eliminate it.
