Ok good deal. I'm not interested in just making it "better" with a quality regulator, I want to make it "right" with a smaller pump. Any idea what pump will work well with this regulator AND be a direct replacement for the Walbro 255? Engine is a bone stock 5.3L.

I have never heard of a vette regulator having a problem with a 255, but obviously that doesn't help you any. I know you don't have much time, but you could always convert it to run on the return-style fuel rails and replace the vette regulator with just a filter. It looks like you have done a very nice job on the project, would hate to cut corners now.

Before you go ordering parts, try slowing down the current pump by dropping the voltage to see if it helps. The right way to do it would be a PWM controller or DC power supply, however the redneck/fast way is to wire in a headlight bulb (or some other load) in line with the pump.

Thanks yall, I went ahead and ordered a 190 Walbro. If there's no change, I'll certainly use the leftover pump for something in the future. I'd be all for going return style but I spent so much time plumbing the fuel system for aesthetics, there isn't time to run a return line to the engine bay in a manner that I would like. If lowering the pump output doesn't help, I'll try a WIX filter replacement.

Actually even though I've already ordered the pump, I'll confirm or eliminate a possible return restriction tonight if there's time. Gotta knock out some bigger stuff though before I can spend any time on the fuel system.

Thanks guys! I'll post my findings tomorrow or Friday!

magic google returned this in about 2 minutes. cliff notes: guy plummed a system using 255 and cheapo "vette retrun fitler". saw 70psi fuel pressure.

changed to wix 33737 and magically went down to 58psi.

Well damn. Sorry and thanks! I hate being the jackass that never searches. I did search a few times but found mostly non relevant stories. I don't know where this filter actually came from so maybe it's an el cheapo.
