Return-Style Fuel Conversion
#21
The bucket will serve no purpose other than to mount the gauge's sending unit by the time you whittle enough of it away to fit those pumps. You will basically have your pumps suspended in the tank with no reservoir of fuel that the bucket is intended to provide because of the holes that you make for the pumps to fit. All will be OK, though, if you keep your tank more than 1/2 full always. That is, if you can get those pumps into the tank. Like I said in another thread, they measure 55 mm in diameter, and I am pretty sure that the opening in the tank is less than 4 inches.

From what I can tell there are about 4 different part numbers that refer to the same pump. I think 1020 is the toyota part number while 1252 is the denso part number. Just for the sake of completeness, the output measured 11/32" and the total body height is 99mm.

Yep, exact one.
I also just scored an 04 bucket to hack up instead of my original off ebay. Asking price was 65 and I offered 40 and he took it.

Has anyone thought about using
one of these?

You couls use one large external pump/filter, and just use the bucket for the tank level sender, and the return.
