Default long cold starts

2002 HD 6.0. 185k miles stock down to the paper filter and even has the factory plugs and wires at 185,000 miles lol. hell, the paper filter may have 185k on it too for all i know haha.

anyways. first crank in the morning can take 10-15 seconds. once it is running it purrs like a kitten. today i replaced the FPR thinking i was fixing the problem. wrong.

it has several exhaust manifold bolts broken. 3 that i know of. the rear 2 on the drivers side cause a huge leak when cold. they seal up once the engine warms up (next on my repair list)....

bad pump or is there possibly something else to check.

if i prime the pump twice it seems to work. figured that was a FPR problem. damn i dont feel like paying for a new pump during x-mas time! i just dont want to replace the pump and still not fix it. the FPR is already 50 out the window.

Have you tried pulling one of the plugs to see what shape there in?

With that kind of mileage I'm sure the gap is larger then specified.

X2^ I would go ahead and put new plugs of choice and run a fuel cleaner through it, my preference for serious cleaning is RxP with some premium fuel. For my average cleaning I prefer Lucas. Also check/replace the air filter and clean the throttle body with some B12.

Bang on the cats lightly with a crowbar/small hammer. lol they could be carbon fudged up. < do this before running it with the RxP.

Keep us updated, I haven't really herd of this problem and curious as to clear up what is going on.

Ive done 80% of my typical tune up. Ive had it logged and once warmed up, everything looks great 02 and converter wise. Ive run seafoam through about 8 gallons, seafoam is in the crankcase until the next oil change. I do need to clean the TB as its sticky off idle. Ill use seafoam for that too. Relaced evap valve, new fpr, replaced evap w rubber line instead of that brittle plastic ****.

I have new tr55 plugs and some new wires but im holding off until the doc releases me to do some grunt work. I dont want to replace plugs and wires before im able to remove the manifolds for som extractions and egr delete. 185k i might as well replace the pump for piece of mind. Thats just money id rather spend on finishing the street/drag truck (which also has pump issues)

Too many projects to be down w back issues!

In the long run, its cheaper to do it right the first time. Spent 2x the money and 2x the labor too many times lol . Especially now that the wife is adoptig as her dd lmao. Up until its time to fill up. Shell hop back in her car at that point until i fill it again im sure lol

She sees 300ish miles to a tank in her tc an thinks 300 to a tank in this truck as normal. 15 gallons vs 27 gallons hasnt registered yet lol
