How come Ford teased us with that badass concept Lightning, based on the new F150? That truck was beautiful, I probably would have bought one. Did they ever release an official response on why they aren't making it?

get a monster box
And here's the last thing I heard/believed:
The only correction I would make to that is Dodge was first with the sport truck market, not Ford.
And here's the last thing I heard/believed:
there would be a Lightning. It was put on the backburner so they could make the Cobra. Since both vehicles were on entirely new platforms they didn't have the resources to create both at the same time. The Cobra is SVT's flagship so it goes first. Once the Cobra is created they will begin work on the new Lightning. Keep in mind this was awhile ago.
Here's my opinion. The Lightning will return. Why? Because Ford created the sport truck market and they aren't going to let it slip away without a fight. Did they quit making the Mustang even though the Camaro was faster? Of course not, they made the car better and outsold the Camaro 2 to 1. The Lightning was selling just fine even being outperformed by the Dodge.
If you remember there was a gap in between the first and second gen. I imagine it takes alot of time/effort to make an F150 into a performance vehicle because it was never designed for it. The Mustang is designed for performance so the transformation from GT to Cobra is fairly easy, a truck is the opposite end of the spectrum in regards to performance. Sit back and wait, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
And as for not beating the Viper truck, the Lightning wasn't far behind even with the 120 hp deficit. It would not be hard for Ford to build a truck that outperforms the srt10.

The Lightning was not scrapped due to tranny problems. They were going to use the 5r100 after kickin around a 6-speed manual idea for a while. It was scrapped because the new f-150 weighs to much. A 03 L with chip, pulley, cai would keep up with the concept they were planning simply because of the massive weigh difference. This is what I have come to understand the reason was.
Don't worry boys! The Adrenalin will be a BAD truck. 32v 4.6 (03-04 Terminator motor) forged internals, 6 speed auto, AWD, 6000 lb towing cap. and on, and on. I personally will do everything in my power to own one and still keep my Lightning.
