Default Need Primer/Sealer Direction

I want to start busting the rust off my bucket but need help on the primer and sealer application process.

The truck isn't going to the paint booth anytime soon but I would like to work on stopping the corrosion process now.

Do I need to prime the prepped area then seal it or do I just seal it. It is outdoors under a fabric cover.

And, is there a rattle can brand of primer and sealer anyone can recommend or should I not rattle can it? I imagine a paint gun would be the best but I don't want to deal with that process if I don't have to.

Mods, I posted here because I saw no paint and body section. Please move if I should have posted elsewhere.
